Fernhurst, West Sussex, England

A view towards Verdley Place

Verdley Castle

Verdley Castle, probably a 14th-century fortified manor house, or hunting tower, now demolished, lay in present day Henley Wood. The area is haunted by the ghost of the last bear to be killed in England, having been slain one snowy Christmas Day by yokels looking for food.
